 ECSTASY
Commonly referred to as ecstasy, MDMA is a mind-altering drug with
hallucinogenic and stimulant-type affects. Ecstasy has become popular
over the last decade as a "club drug" being used at raves
and underground parties as well as on the streets. People who use
ecstasy enjoy the heightened sense of feeling, pleasure and euphoria
the drug produces. Ecstasy affects the user in a number of different
ways and can cause depression, confusion, paranoia and anxiety.
These effects can take place while a person is using the drug or
even weeks after use.
Peoples' bodies react negatively to ecstasy many people experiencing
an increase in heart rate, muscle and jaw tension, nausea, fatigue
and excessive sweating. Habitual users of ecstasy or people who
have adverse affects to the drug can also be in danger of long term
brain damage to the part of the brain responsible for critical thinking
and memory. People who use ecstasy are at high risk for permanent
brain damage. Ecstasy is most commonly used among teenagers and
young adults and is most commonly available in larger cities and
metropolitan areas. Long-term effects can also include liver damage
and a tendency towards problems such as Parkinson's disease and
paralysis later in life.
